“My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.” Psalm 62:3
These words have become so dear to my heart…
My Father tells me to not worry. To wait for Him in silence. Find rest in Him. Place my hope in Him only.
It is so easy to give in to worrying…
I worry about SO MANY THINGS!
Don’t get me wrong. I am an optimist. I see the glass half-full. I like to find the positive in anything negative.
But that’s not the issue.
You and I live in a world where uncertainty abounds. We cannot trust the US economy and its rollercoaster history of ups and downs. We cannot trust our government to keep us safe. We cannot trust our religious leaders, our neighbors, our friends… And the list goes on and on…
Forget about the big things like economy and the job market.
What about everyday issues?
I worry anytime I go to work. (Thank God I have a job).
Will my husband and kids be safe and not get into a car accident as they drive to grandparents’ house on a separate car? We need to figure out a way how we can always drive together.
Will the kids be safe and not choke on anything at grandma’s house? I need to teach grandparents the Heimlich maneuver.
Will they need CPR for some reason? I need to teach grandparents the CPR.
Will they be struck by a crazy car driver as they walk on a busy street to the local park with their grandpa? I need to instruct them to go out only into the backyard. Oh, but the backyard has a beehive… They need to stay in the house wrapped in bubble wrap.
We worry about vaccines or parents not vaccinating their children. We worry about our health or our loved one’s health issues. We worry about the California drought, the overabundance of snow in the North-East, the policies being put into place by our elected officials, the future of this country and the world, etc…
ALL THE TIME.
“Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.” Psalm 116:7
This is a call for all of us: To Stop Worrying…
Our Heavenly Father, who created the entire universe and who knows the comings and goings of even the tiniest bug, certainly has everything else under control…
He created you… He cares for you… He loves you…
“I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live” Psalm 116:1-2. Call on the Lord…
He listens. He responds. He know everything you are going through. He WILL hear your call for help.
“The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the Lord: ‘O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!’ Psalm 116:3-4.
My Father saved ME from death so many times… He freed me from the clutches of depression and despair when I was a teenager battling with memories of sexual abuse. He saved me and He will save you too! Just call on the name of the Lord!
“Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple” v. 5-6. He PRESERVES the simple… What comfort!
“When I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.”
Take comfort in these words. Allow Him to fill your heart with peace. Stop worrying. He has it covered. Whatever it is…
“I believed, even when I spoke: ‘I am greatly afflicted’; I said in my alarm, ‘All mankind are liars.'” v. 10-11. Yes, men will betray you. Friends you trusted will betray you and stab you in the back. But the Lord’s faithfulness is everlasting. His love is unconditional… Look upon HIM and not on people.
“What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people” v. 12-14. Lord, I praise YOU for saving me. I glorify YOUR name only. Help me to trust in YOU only!
“Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son (daughter) of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!”
The Lord even reminds me to not fear death… “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints…”
Do you worry? What are your fears? Place them all into the God’s hands. Verbalize them to him in prayer and let go…
Take comfort in these words and let your heart find rest in the one who knows every hair on your head.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31
